Is located in southern part of Goa. Canacona was ceded by the Raja of Sund to the Portuguese, as per treaty of 1791, Canacona was among the last parts of the territory to be absorbed into the Novas Conquistas, and has retained a distinctly Hindu feel.
The district also boasts some of the states most outstanding scenery. There is Jungle covered by Sahyadri Hills at a backdrop (an extension of the Western Ghat Range), a string of pearl white coves and sweeping beaches scoop its indented coastline.
