Pathanamthitta is a district; it was formed on 1st of November 1982. This is also town and the district head quarter. Earlier, Pathanamthitta was a part of Kollam, Alappuzha, and Idukki district, later on it was carried out and becomes a district.
It is also known as the headquarters of PILGRIMAGE TOURISM, and known for exuberant fairs and festivals.
This district is close to the various famous Western Ghats and endowed with scenic landscape comprising of low undulating hills, extensive stretches of lush forests, rivers and charming countryside.
Pathanamthitta has an important place in Travancore state, as this is the biggest taluk in the old Travancore state and played an important role for revenue collection
Pathanamthitta town is noted for communal and cultural harmony too. There are lots of temples, churches, and mosques built in close proximity. In the centre of the town, the Chandanakudam festival at the mosque is very famous.
